Doctor Pox, aka Plague Doctor
The Plague Doctor is not a traditional commedia acting mask, though some troupes have incorporated it into their cast of characters. The mask was the 1600s version of what we would today call "PPE" or safety gear. This version has open eye and nose area, but the traditional version would have glass lens over the eyes and the nose would be stuffed with aromatics meant to filter out the plague. Essentially, it was an early gas mask.
This version is hand sculpted 5-6 oz. vegetable tanned leather finished with a water based black leather dye. The natural leather straps are riveted on to the mask and the buckle is nickel.
